Our proposals for the Local Centre
We are proposing a new Local Centre that would comprise a Co-op store, a community centre, a McDonald’s restaurant, and additional commercial and community spaces to serve the new residents of St James’ Park and those in the surrounding area.
An overview of our proposal
A new Local Centre for St James’ Park
A range of new jobs, both full time and part time
A new community centre and garden to provide a space for local groups
A new, convenient Co-op foodstore for St James’ Park
A new McDonald’s restaurant
A new nursery for local children at the north-western corner
A café and a further retail unit, with occupiers to be confirmed
A gym, to be occupied by PureGym
Substantive new areas of public realm and landscaping
Car parking provision and electric vehicle charging points
Dedicated cycle and pedestrian routes to promote active travel

Access and parking
The site is well connected via the local highway network and is easily accessible for both residents and businesses at the wider St James’ Park development.
The Local Centre includes 93 car parking spaces, of which 8 are accessible spaces and 4 are parent and child spaces. Sustainable forms of transport will also be encouraged, through the provision of dedicated cycle and pedestrian routes as well as the installation of 6 electric vehicle charging points (EVCPs), with provision for 10 further EVCPs should there be demand for them in the future. There would also be 56 cycle spaces, including 4 disabled cycle parking spaces, as well as 4 motorcycle parking spaces.
